By Rania al-SudaniPublished 11:06 am, November 15, 2019TARZAN, Afghanistan – A soldier’s former wife was released from a US detention facility on Thursday, days after the US released three other Afghan detainees from US custody.
Zubair Rehman had been held for five months by the US in the southern province of Kunar after being accused of spying for the Taliban.US officials said Rehmann, who was a member of the provincial police, was released by US forces after three weeks in a “briefcase holding cell”.
“We are pleased that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the United States have been able to release Mr. Zubair Rehm, a member and father of three children, from the custody of the US government,” said US Army Maj. Gen. James Conley, head of the Afghan command.
Zuhair Rehtani, his wife, Zohra Rehsh, and two children, aged 2 and 6, were arrested in March and released on Friday.
Zuha Rehm and her children were not among those released.
